Common FAQs
A: Most hardwood Sand & Refinishes take 4-5 days to complete, depending on the size and scope of the job. That includes sanding, staining (if requested), and applying 2 coats of finish. Typically, we start on Monday and finish on Friday — barring any unforeseen issues. But again, and depending on the size and difficulty of the project, a typical Sand & Refinish takes 4-5 days to complete. We’ll give you a specific timeline based on your space, and we are in constant communication with our clients along the way — no surprises, just quality craftsmanship from The Hardwood Flooring Pros.
A: Yes, but very little. 100% Dust-Control is IMPOSSIBLE to achieve, and anyone who says otherwise is simply blowing DUST! We use state-of-the-art dust containment systems that capture up to 99% of airborne dust, keeping your home clean and your air breathable as much as possible. We’re obsessive about vacuuming and keeping dust under control. No mess, no stress.
A: Yes — as long as the top wear layer is thick enough, engineered hardwood can usually be sanded and refinished at least once. We’ll inspect your floors and let you know exactly what’s possible.
A: In most cases, no — especially if the project is contained to a small section of your home. But if we’re working across multiple rooms or applying oil-based finishes, you may prefer to vacate temporarily due to drying time and odors. However, there will be “Critical Stages” where you CANNOT walk on the floor: After the floor is prepped or “waterpopped” and is ready to be stained, during the Staining Process itself, and during the Finishing Process. During those times, however, we communicate with you and offer “booties” so you can cruise around without worry!
A: Stick with soft brooms, microfiber mops, and hardwood-safe cleaners (we recommend Bona or Pallmann). Avoid steam mops, oil/wax-based “polishers”, and vinegar — they’ll wreck your finish. We’ll give you a full care guide after your project is done.
A: The Hardwood Flooring Pros proudly serves Salt Lake, Summit, and Utah counties, including Sandy, Salt Lake City, Park City, Bluffdale, Lehi, Provo, and everywhere in between. Not sure if you’re in our radius? Just give us a shout — if your home has hardwood, we’re interested!
A: We specialize in solid and engineered hardwood flooring ONLY — nothing else. Whether you want a classic oak plank or a modern wide-board walnut, we can help you find the right product and install it with flawless precision.
A: Absolutely! Whether your floors are 20 years old or original to the home, we’re experts in matching wood species, stain color, and finish to blend new flooring with existing hardwood. Most people won’t know where the old ends and the new begins.
A: Prices vary depending on the square footage, condition, complexity, location, and type of finish you choose, but most refinishing projects range between $6–$9 per square foot. We’ll give you a comprehensive quote before we touch a sander.
A: Yes, 100%. We’re fully licensed and carry both liability and worker’s comp insurance. You should never let anyone touch your floors without it, and we are more than happy to provide you with proof if needed.
A: Nope. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t install corners that snap together. We’re a hardwood-only company because we believe in craftsmanship, longevity, and the natural beauty of real wood — not plastic. If it’s not hardwood, it’s not us.
A: We offer oil-based stains in 26 different colors that meet the lowest VOC standards on the market, giving you deep, lasting hues without compromising air quality. Choose between oil-modified or waterborne hardwood floor finishes, with sheen options from high-gloss to ultra-matte—so you get exactly the look and performance you want.
⚠️ Important note: In Salt Lake and Utah Counties, use of standard polyurethane is restricted by Utah Department of Environmental Quality rules (R307‑342 & R307‑343) to control VOC emissions. That means we stay compliant by using low-VOC alternatives. However, in Park City and Summit County, conventional polyurethane options are still permitted—and available should clients prefer that finish.
